Dr. Gamal Shiha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Liver Patients’Care in Dakahlia and Member of the House of Representatives, received, yesterday, the delegations of the Health and Education Committees of the House of Representatives during their visit to the Egyptian Liver Hospital in Sherbeen, in Dakahlia Governorate.

The deputies toured the hospital departments and were briefed on the medical and therapeutic services provided to patients with liver and digestive diseases, as well as on the latest medical equipment used for the diagnosis of viral diseases and tumors of the liver and digestive system, and genes that are responsible for diseases

Dr. Gamal Shiha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Liver Foundation, expressed his great pleasure at welcoming the Members of the Health and Education Committees of the Egyptian House of Representatives, during their visit to the Hospital on the occasion of the eighth anniversary of its opening and of the celebration of the twenty-two-year anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Liver Patients’Care, as well as on the occasion of the celebration of announcing the results of the first batch of graduates of the Technical Institute of Nursing of the Egyptian Liver Foundation.

Dr. Gamal Shiha briefed the deputies on the potentialities of the hospital, the medical clinics and hospital departments during their hospital tour, as well as on the treatments of liver diseases and viruses, and on liver and gastrointestinal surgery, which are provided free of charge to those who could not afford to pay.

Dr. Gamal Shiha said that the civil work in Egypt carried a large part of the medical service provided to citizens and that the civil society lifted a heavy burden off the state, noting that the Egyptian Liver Foundation receives 120,000 patients annually, in addition to providing surgical treatment, endoscopy, hepatocellular surgery, viral hepatitis treatment and Hepatitis B vaccination to tens of thousands of patients.

He added : “22 years ago, through the Association of Liver Patients’Care and its branches located in the majority of Egypt’s governorates, we set a main goal to eradicate the Hepatitis C in Egypt. We have managed to treat tens of thousands of infected citizens and we are proud to work on the project of 100 villages free of viral hepatitis.”

The deputies expressed their deep admiration for the high standard of the Egyptian Liver Hospital in Sherbeen and thanked Dr. Gamal Shiha for his work, for twenty years, in the fight against viral hepatitis, liver tumors and gastrointestinal diseases.

Dr. Ibrahim Abdel Aziz Hegazy, deputy of the eastern cities of Cairo, "El Shorouk City, Badr City and New Cairo" expressed his thanks to Dr. Gamal Shiha and the highly professional hospital staff in the medical, administrative or nursing departments. He also thanked every citizen who contributed to the implementation of this project, praising the level of cleanliness that meets the standards of international medical facilities. He stressed that this hospital is not only a civil medical institution, but it will play an important role in the system of health development and the provision of distinctive medical services.

He also said that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi played a great and prominent role in health and education development, which is moving forward towards achieving the State goals, noting that the Egyptian Liver Hospital is following the same path.

Dr. Ibrahim Hegazy, Prime Minister, Dr. Ghada Wali, Minister of Solidarity, and Dr. Hala Zayed, Minister of Health, appealed to provide to the Egyptian Liver Hospital the financial and medical assistance for it to achieve the required sustainability, so that the hospital can provide patients with medical care and services at the same level.
Dr.Makram Radwan, member of the health committee and professor of orthopedic surgery said : “I am pleased to be present with Dr. Gamal Shiha and deputies of the Education Committee in the Egyptian Liver Hospital, and although it is not my first visit, but what I’ve witnessed today is great and I could not imagine the volume of achieved work, at the highest level, including the laboratories, Radiation and Surgery Departments, in addition to fourteen outpatient clinics equipped, at the highest level, with wonderful air-conditioned suitable rooms for our patients.

“I was surprised to find that the hospital does not contract with the Health Insurance Authority. The residents of the region have to go to the health insurance bureau in Mansoura, then they are transferred to Kafr El-Sheikh, Shebin El Koum, Gharbia and Sharqiyah, and this is a big inconvenience for them. I appeal to the Minister of Health and Director of Health Insurance Authority in Dakahlia to contract with the Egyptian Liver Hospital.” He added.

MP Moustafa Kamal El-Din Hussein, member of the Education Committee, said : “What I’ve witnessed in the Egyptian Liver Hospital is a miracle and I did not imagine the achievement realized before my visit to the hospital. The hospital is equipped at the highest level, including the most expensive and most recent medical equipments. The patients are treated free of charge in addition to the high service and level of cleanliness. I hope that the government hospitals will come and visit to imitate the Egyptian Liver Hospital that provides free of charge high quality treatment.
