Dr Gamal Shiha, Chairman of ALPA’s Board of Directors: conducting 3 967 medical examinations, 445 Fibroscan X-rays, 49 liver tumor resections, all free of charge -January 2021
The African Liver Patients Association- ALPA declared signing the carrying out of free medical examinations -at the Association of Liver Patients Care (ALPC), its branches and the Egyptian Liver Hospital of Shirbin- for 3 967 patients, together with 487 endoscopies, 445 Fibroscan, 799 ultrasounds, 71 X-rays and 307 CT scan in January 2021.
Professor Shiha said that although strict precautionary measures were taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, different medical procedures were conducted: 49 hepatic intra-arterial injections, 56 various surgeries, including 32 cholecystectomies, 8 weight loss surgeries, 1 colon resection, 1 gastrectomy, 1 splenectomy, 1 appendectomy and 5 exploratory laparotomies.
In addition, medical tests for 2,495 patients were performed, along with ERCP for 14 patients, 6 ultrasounds, 1 611individuals were vaccinated against hepatitis B, and various treatments were provided to 856 patients.
