Prof. Gamal Shiha/ Chairman of ALPA’s Board of Directors: 38 hepatic intra-arterial injections and 52 surgical procedures were performed for the poor in February 2021
Prof. Dr Gamal Shiha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Liver Patients Association- ALPA, declared signing the carrying out of free medical examination -at the Association of Liver Patients Care (ALPC), its branches and the Egyptian Liver Hospital of Shirbin- for 4 099 patients, together with 403 endoscopies, 451 Fibroscan, 768 ultrasounds, 69 X-rays and 307 CT scan for those who could not afford such medical services in January 2021.
Professor Shiha said that although strict precautionary measures were taken at the ALPC, its branches and the Egyptian Liver Hospital to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, different medical procedures were conducted: 38 hepatic intra-arterial injections, 52 various surgeries, including 31 cholecystectomies, 9 weight loss surgeries, 4 liver resections, 2 colon resections, 1 exploratory laparotomy and 7 hernia repairs.
In addition, medical tests for 2 511 patients were conducted, along with ERCP for 13 patients, 1 721 individuals were vaccinated against hepatitis B, and various treatments were provided to 877 patients who could not afford medical treatments.
